1.7.3 golden rule: never change a running system

even if Google offers you the golden apple… there’s always a catch!

  • on devices with Android up to 4.2 the app icon was gone. Chose to use the “mipmap” instead of “drawable” as suggested by Google, and did not check version compatibility. Duh!
  • added intelligent Calendar supervision
  • 1.7.3a: Clock and Sleep Helper menus did not work any more
New feature: Intelligent Calendar supervision

The calendars selected for the Calendar automatics (using the”@Sunrise:” commands invented last week) are searched for all-day-items with “vacation” in the item’s text.

If one is found, a notification offers to ignore that entry as irrelevant (by adding “@sunrise:ignore” command to its description) or to suppress alarms in that date range (not surprisingly using “@sunrise:-“).

1.7.2 Maintenance Release

  • replaced the icon by the new one 🙂
  • STANDARD version: coexistence check (offers to uninstall FREE version if it is already installed)
  • FREE version: added settings entry to go to the Play Store of the Standard version
  • FREE version: removed access to clock and sleep helper (unneeded for the app that is intended to allow checking whether the dawn simulation helps to get up easier)

Version 1.6.3: New feature “Respect Calendar Entries” (Standard Version)

With the help of calendar entries, you can modify the alarm list. In order to accomplish this, the description field of the calendar items of the next 7 days is examined.

  • By adding a text ‘@Sunrise: <parameters>‘ to the calendar entry’s description, the entry is used as single alarm entry in Personal Sunrise.

<parameters> is a time difference like ‘-1h 30m’ to add/subtract the start time of the alarm from the calendar event’s start time, or an absolute time like ’08:30′ (attention: 24-hour-format, if you need your sunrise past noon ;)).

Remember to remove the reminder if it would be in the range of the dawn simulation! Otherwise it would be counter-productive…

By adding such an alarm, all alarms from templates of the same day will be automatically disabled.

  • By adding ‘@Sunrise:-, all template alarms in the date/time range of the calendar entry are disabled. So for vacation, you can be pro-active and enter that text for your vacation entry in the calendar.

It is always possible to manually re-enable or disable alarms that are created or modified by the calendar.

Special thanks to a customer for that suggestion!

Next development idea: the “Chromecast” edition

No need to write much more, is there?

Purpose is to program the Chromecast stick (actually an UFO in the new version) to use the TV as display for ‘Personal Sunrise’. Saying goes some people have a TV in the sleeping room, so that makes perfect sense.

Main tasks are

  1. how to switch the TV on (or, if that does not work, to recognize the failure and show the alarm the ‘traditional’ way)
  2. whether the TV can be dark enough as starter
  3. how to set the TV in sleep mode (for the dusk simulation)
  4. far aim: the pictures to show (dusk simulation: a log fireplace?), …
